Picture Ace offers you saveral ways to name
saved images. You can select the desired naming scheme
in the Image Options
dialog. Open it using the Options -> Images
command in the main program menu or use the tray icon
menu or the IE button menu.
You may need to click the Naming options button
to show the image naming options.
There are three naming schemes: original name, numerical
name, current date + numerical name. In all previous
tutorials we were saving images under their original
names, i.e. their names on the web site. Sometimes it
is more convenient to give images numerical names. Let's
select the Generate numerical name option. Note
that you can also set a prefix, a number of digits and
the first number to start naming from. Set these values
to the ones shown on the screen-shot below:
Click OK and switch the current destination
folder to Scenery.
Now save two pictures below using the Ctrl + Click
combination or the IE context menu (the Save Image
command):
Open the current destination folder.
We can see that the images have been saved correctly
(the prefix + a number).
In most cases it's okay to leave the original file
name, but occasionally you may need to give an image
another name. For instance, the original name of the
image is Timberline.jpg and you want to name
it SmallWood.jpg. Doing this by setting the prefix
value is not very convenient since you need to open
the Image Options
dialog first. Happily, Picture Ace offers another,
much more convenient way. Let's first switch back to
the Original naming scheme.
The trick is that when you hold the Shift key
while saving an image, the Image File Name dialog
appears. The dialog allows you to change the file name
of the image. Press and hold down the Shift key, then
Ctrl + Click the picture below (or use the Save Image
command), release the Shift key after the Image
File Name dialog appears.
Replace Timberline with SmallWood and
press Enter (or click OK).
Picture Ace saves the picture as SmallWood.jpg.
Note that in the Image File Name dialog you
could also change the destination folder and even create
a subfolder.
If you want the Image File Name dialog to appear
every time you save an image and don't want to hold
the Shift key, there is such an option in the
Web Browser Options
dialog.
